A Tanzanian videographer who works with Mbosso was on Wednesday night attacked by unknown assailants while leaving his workplace.

According to Mbosso, the videographer, who goes by the name Director Jay on social media, suffered several deep cuts but was attended to in hospital.

“Usiku wa jana videographer wangu ameshambuliwa kwa mapanga na watu wasiojulikana maeneo ya Mbezi ya Chini karibu na Juliana akiwa anatoka ofisini kumalizia baadhi ya majukumu ya kazi… get well soon bro,” read part of Mbosso’s Instagram stories.

In one of the posts, Jay explained that the thugs, who were on a motorbike, wanted to take away his laptop and camera.

“Boda boda yenyewe kakimbia kwa sababu walikuwa kwenye boda boda. Walisimamisha, boda boda yenyewe kakimbia sasa wenyewe wakawa wanakuja kuchukua laptop yangu na camera mi ndo nikawa nimekimbia” he said when a lady attending to him asked if he managed to catch any of the attackers.

Challenging period

Earlier on Thursday, Mbosso said he has been through a difficult patch in recent weeks and was hopeful things would improve as the year draws to a close.

The singer and Billnass were recently suspended from engaging in artistic activities in Tanzania by the National Arts Council (BASATA) following their involvement in the controversial song ‘Ameyatimba’ by Whozu, which was said to violate ethical standards.

They were also fined three million Tanzanian Shillings each.

Whozu was also asked to remove the video of the song from all digital platforms and was suspended for six months, starting November 4, 2023.

“BASATA has issued warnings and fines to Whozu in the past for disregarding the guidelines on adhering to ethical standards in artistic work. However, he has persistently ignored these warnings,” read a statement by BASATA.
