American actor Patrick Dempsey, popular for his role as ‘Derek’ in Grey’s Anatomy, has been named this year’s Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine.
The announcement was made on Tuesday and Dempsey, 57, said he was honoured to receive such recognition.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly, my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.
“And then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position,” he said.
Dempsey, who has been married to his wife Jillian for the past 24 years, said his family was quite surprised by his new status and even laughed at the idea.
“They laughed, quite hard. They’re like, ‘No, seriously, who is it?” he said.
Unknown to many, Dempsey also loves cars and in an interview with AP in 2022, he said he did all the driving in Michael Mann film ‘Ferrari’.
As far as the title is concerned, he is in good company. People magazine began recognizing Hollywood’s good-looking men in 1985 by naming Mel Gibson.
Others lucky to win the title thrice included; Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Johnny Depp.
