Opposition leader Raila Odinga superfan Nuru Okanga is among the 1.43 million candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination this year.
He on Monday joined other candidates at Mumias Muslim Primary School in Kakamega County as a private candidate. Okanga is aged 32.
Addressing the media, Okanga said he aims to obtain a primary school certificate that would make it easier for him to contest for a county assembly seat.
"I am eyeing Kholera ward seat in Matungu in 2027 and without a certificate I will miss out, that is why I am here to attain my grades because for one to vie for an MCA seat, he must be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and a KCPE certificate is a requirement," said Okanga.
Okanga also appreciated the efforts by Roots party leader George Wajackoyah for hiring a teacher in Nairobi to train him.
"I was well prepared for the exams as Wajackoyah had hired a teacher for me while in Nairobi. I thank him so much for ensuring I had all that was required during the exam period," he said.
He at the same time said he hoped for a better result of at least 250 marks and above that would give him a chance to proceed to the next level of education and also be a better person in future.
"I want to be a prominent person in the future, especially on the political side. I see myself as a president of this nation in future," said Okanga.
Okanga was thrust in the political limelight during the anti-government demonstrations organised by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
He was fond of commenting about President William Ruto and his administration publicly and was on March 25 this year, arrested alongside his accomplice Calvin Gaucho over the Azimio protests.
Okanga dropped out of school in Form Three in 2007 after the demise of his father and went to Nairobi to stay with his aunt.
