Mwanaisha Chidzuga thanks Ruto for state job

Experienced news anchor Mwanaisha Chidzuga is thankful to President William Ruto after she was appointed deputy government spokesperson.

Through her socials, Chidzuga thanked the Head of State for ‘placing his faith in her’, pledging to carry out her duties to the best of her abilities.

“It is an honour to be entrusted with this duty and I am humbled by the opportunity to serve my country in this manner.

“First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our esteemed President H.E Dr William Samoei Ruto, CGH, and the ruling party for placing their faith in me…This appointment represents a significant milestone, not only in my career but also in the broader context of gender equality and women's empowerment,” she wrote.

Adding: “I pledge to carry out my duties with utmost dedication and professionalism, while also striving to be a role model for other young women aspiring to break barriers and achieve their dreams.”

Chidzuga and Gabriel Muthuma will deputise former Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura who was named the Government Spokesperson.

The new office will be tasked with coordinating, planning, managing and implementing communication of government policies and publicising government programmes and projects through media and community engagement.

Mwanaisha’s rise to the top

In a previous interview with Standard Entertainment, Mwanaisha shared her story and the difficulties she faced before landing on TV.

She said it was by grace that at 18, she would move from high school, back in Kwale where she comes from, straight to an interview that saw her get her first job as a radio presenter.

Initially, she wanted to be a lawyer until she casually walked into the Information Office in Kwale and found a job opening.

Four years later, she got a call from KTN where she was asked to check in for an interview. It was an early morning call that came as she was leaving the office after her morning assignment.

It required immediate action, and boldly, she stepped up. This is how she would end up making a transition from Radio to TV, a whole new world where she had to start learning afresh.

“Remember I joined media before getting any formal training on it – something I did much later. At KTN, I recall being asked to write scripts for bulleting and veterans like Ali Mtenzi would outrightly tell me how I was doing everything wrong.

"It was Catherine Kasavuli (the late) who took me under her wings, treating me like her own child, literally. One day she asked me to stop acting like an actress and be the TV presenter I was expected to be. Every day, she would read through my scripts and tell me to be calm on air. She shaped me into the Mwanaisha everyone came to appreciate,” she narrated.
