Kenyans on social media are an interesting lot and they do not shy away from exercising their creativity.

This week, it came in the form of the Head of State, President William Ruto and TikTok star Azziad Nasenya.

When the President drove himself in an electric car to the closing ceremony of the Youth Africa Climate Change Summit at KICC, netizens could not help but marvel at his sense of style.

Stepping out of the car, Ruto wore black and white Converse rubber shoes that immediately drew comparisons to Azziad and Sports CS Ababu Namwamba.

“Leo Ruto amevaa kiatu ya serikali,” said one netizen.

Another one went a step further by merging the photo of the President with that of Azziad. Azziad shared the photo on Twitter, low-key lauding the creativity of the person behind it.

“Ai. Alah! But Why? Aki,” she asked, alongside a laughing emoji.

Azziad’s rise

2020 was one of the darkest years in recent times. Companies went bankrupt and people were subjected to mandatory lockdowns.

Amidst this darkness, one bright star rose, beaming people’s faces with a smile by using her creativity to the fullest. People liked her. Ladies and gentlemen, Azziad Nasenya.

During the lockdown, she did what she does best, entertaining. She swayed her perfectly thin waist to the rhythm of “Utawezana” by Mejja featuring Femi One.

Her numbers grew as everyone wanted to watch her videos on repeat. Since then, her name has been a whole brand.

Unlike most people whose popularity only lasts a while, Nasenya is a different ball game.

“When I was a child and people wanted to be lawyers, I always wanted to be a star. I wanted to do what I am doing right now so I am grateful to God,” she said.

According to her, the same year she rose to stardom was one of the toughest times in her life. Her success attracted a lot of admiration as well as jealousy and meanness.

“If there was a year I was bitter, sad and when I almost went into depression it was definitely 2020. I was just a teenager trying to do what I had been doing for a while and all of a sudden, I looked bad because I danced. I never knew that people could be so ruthless,” she said in an interview.

She has since built her brand and is among the most sought-after influencers.
