Kitengela locals in fear of snakes eating their hens and pets

A few days after a group of Kitengela residents in Kajiado protested due to an alleged attack by a snake that had been causing terror for an entire week, the count of snakes has risen to three.

The residents are appealing to the Kenya Wildlife Service to capture the snakes before they cause harm.

Last week, residents of Acacia village, located on the outskirts of Kitengela town, expressed their fear of being attacked by a snake that led to the death of numerous chickens and dogs.

The marauding snakes reportedly strike during the late hours of the night and then retreat to a nearby bush. Moses Wafula, whose residence was invaded on Tuesday, said the snakes are of an immense size, making direct confrontation unfeasible. He described their appearance, stating that they possess large eyes resembling spotlights, albeit in a reddish hue.

The length of these snakes is estimated to be nearly 30ft. “We’re uncertain about the situation. We’re even too afraid to venture outside at night due to the risk of encountering this snake, which exclusively emerges at night, carries out attacks, and then retreats into the bushes,” Wekesa said.

Mary Ngina, also residing in the same village, conveyed her difficulty in sleeping soundly due to the constant fear of snake attacks.

Kajiado Governor Joseph Lenku recently called on KWS to remove problematic wild animals from the residents’ settlements.
