Music extravaganza Choma na Ngoma will take place on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Rift Valley Sports Club in Nakuru.

Fronted by Radio Maisha, Choma na Ngoma is a celebration of great music, dance and food.

Barbeque and music lovers are set for a treat as they sample tasty bites and listen to homegrown music talent by top music stars, including; Shizo Mkenya, Jussneera, Veryl Mkali Wao, Brownbucks, Vigilante, Teferah and MC Savage. Here are some of the headlining acts.

KHALIGRAPH JONES

Khaligraph Jones' fast rap and flow have earned him fame and popularity within and outside the country. His longevity in the game has also played a part in his success.

Ten years into his musical journey, he released a full-length studio album titled Testimony 1990. This earned him Best Rap Act of the Year at the AFRIMMA Awards in 2018.

His hard work has reaped him many benefits. In 2020, he again won the Best Hip Hop Act at the Sound City MVP Awards was also nominated for the global BET Awards in the same year, which he unfortunately did not win but more wins are inevitably on the way for him.

With his latest song Flee, Khaligraph is set to continue his streak of success in the music industry.

OTILE BROWN

Otile Brown has been a cornerstone in RnB. He got the attention of a very receptive audience in 2016 with his hit single Imaginary Love featuring Khaligraph Jones.

Otile was awarded at the Pulse Music Video Awards for Male Video of the Year with his single Baby Love. He has also done international tours, which have seen him gain an international audience. In 2020, he dropped the album Just In Love.

NADIA MUKAMI

Nadia Mukami began her music journey in 2015 with her first song Barua ya Siri. Her second song Kesi, which she released in 2017 was well-received by listeners and she started creating a buzz for herself in the music industry.

Her breakthrough came in 2019 with her song Radio Love, which she did with Arrow Bwoy. Her well-deserved recognition was starting to show. The song got her two awards at the Pulse Music Video Awards, and she became one of the artistes to represent Kenya in Coke Studio Africa.

She dropped her EP in 2020 featuring artistes like Fena Gitu, and Sanaipei Tande. In 2021, Nadia was for the first time nominated for the MTV Africa Music Awards.

BENSOUL

Bensoul is a soulful vocalist and songwriter who has created a niche for himself in the music industry.

He was raised in a musical background and developed a love and passion for music at a young age. He was signed to Sol Generation Records in 2019, which marked a new chapter in his career, and since then, he has released several songs.

How he writes songs from his experiences separates him from the rest. His prowess in playing instruments and how he does not mince his words while doing so clearly shows there are levels to this game.

His latest album, The Lion of Sudah has earned him more recognition and fame. Indeed, he is expected to deliver more for his fans.  

NVIIRI THE STORYTELLER

Nviiri possesses the traits of a great performer, a unique voice and a unique composer which he displays when it comes to delivery of his songs.

His true love and passion for music make it easy for him to go about his music business so well. He has consistently built his audience over the years he has spent in the industry whilst working with the best in the industry.

His hit song Pombe Sigara made the focus shift to him and since then, he has been dropping bangers, making him a fan favourite. He was signed to Sol Generation alongside Bensoul and whenever the two jump on a track, it becomes a delight to listen to. 

SSARU

Ssaru’s determination to mark her presence in the male-dominated genre she pursues has worked well for her.

Her hard punch and flow have earned her a huge fan base locally and her songs have received airplay in media outlets, reminding everyone of her relevance. Her journey to fame has been an inspiring one since she started as a freestyle rapper.

In 2019, her freestyle hit the Internet and this is what opened doors for her. Her raps portray her culture, upbringing and street way of life. Streaming platforms like Spotify and Boomplay have featured her.

She has also not shied away from representing the females in love with the culture.

FATHERMOH

The hook master who came up with Mbuzi Gang has amassed a wide fan base over a short period. His catchy lines made fans sing along whenever his jams were played on air.

He, however, chose to pursue a solo career to fully exploit his potential. His first solo song Kaskie Vibaya, which he did with Ssaru was well received. His four-year journey has been remarkable.
