Sam Asghari, Britney Spears end 14-month marriage

Following a marriage that lasted 14 months, Sam Asghari has taken to Instagram to make a formal announcement regarding his divorce from Britney Spears.

“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each and I wish her the best always. Shit happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful, “he wrote.

The couple had parted ways nearly three weeks prior to this announcement, with court documents citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind their decision to divorce.

Speculative reports from tabloids had suggested that Sam Asghari might have had intentions to capitalize on his association with the 'princess of pop' after the divorce, but his representative Brandon Cohen has refuted these claims.

“There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos. However, all these claims are false, as no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her,” said Cohen.

The pair met in 2016 on the set of the music video for Britney Spears' song 'Slumber Party'.

After getting engaged in September 2021, the couple tied the knot in June 2022 at Britney's residence in Thousand Oaks.

The private ceremony was graced by notable figures such as Madonna, Paris Hilton, and Selena Gomez among others.

Sam Asghari is seeking spousal support and coverage for legal fees from the 'Toxic' pop star, as stated in the divorce petition he submitted to the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

This marks Sam Asghari's inaugural marriage, while it is Britney's third.

Britney Spears is yet to address the divorce publicly as she concentrates on the impending release of her memoir titled 'The Woman in Me', set to debut in October.
