Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has spoken after he was sentenced to 10 years in jail for shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

Through a statement on his socials, Lanez maintained that he is innocent and he will not apologise for something he did not do.

“I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never let no jail time eliminate me. Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will.

“This week in court I took responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved…That’s it,” he wrote.

Adding: “In no way, shape or form was I apologising for the charges I am being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologise for something that I did not do.”

He was hopeful that he would emerge out of the situation stronger and expressed optimism that this too would pass.

“I’ve faced adversity my whole life and every time it looked like I would lose, I came out on top. This is nothing but another moment where my back is against the wall and I refuse to stop fighting till I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, tough people do,” he wrote.

Lanez was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.

Judge David Herriford of the Los Angeles Superior Court issued the verdict for the 31-year-old Lanez. He had been found guilty in December of three felony charges: using a semiautomatic firearm to commit assault, possessing a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and recklessly discharging a firearm.

The incident, which caused division within the music industry, resulted in Megan Thee Stallion undergoing surgery to extract bullet fragments from her foot.

Following the verdict, the Los Angeles District Attorney remarked that Megan Thee Stallion's prominence contributed to raising awareness about violence against women.
