Moipei sisters back in Kenya after mega highlights in US

The Moipei Triplets Mary, Maggy and Marta have been rocking Broadway and winning accolades in the Cabaret circles in a fashion only comparable to the time Lupita Nyong’o won the Oscars for Africa for the first time in her exquisite portrayal of Patsy in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave

Their itinerary has been so tight, they had to move from Austin, Texas, where they had arrived a couple of years ago to study music and not only did they hit the Dean’s least every academic year, but they graduated with First Class Honours, each one of them.

So good they were that when in the third year, the triplets had to perform the American National Anthem at the American Superbowl. In October last year, the Angelic troupe won the prestigious 2022 Julie Wilson Award in New York City before the Who-Is-Who in the American entertainment world.

“Presented to Moi for whom the phrase 'far-reaching' does not come within thousands of miles of defining their Worldwide acceptance; their jubilant conquest of diverse stages and cultures; their impact on the entertainment industry; and the scope and depth of their many awards and honours;” read part of the citation of the award by Linda and Perterson as well as The Mabel Mercer Foundation.

Their latest accolade is the way they have rocked the Cabaret music in New York with authenticity and unique vocal and tonal harmonies that have swept every listener off their feet.

The Moipei has been acknowledged as a unit that has demonstrated singular abilities to thrill audiences in any form of presentation and who have repeatedly, easily and assuredly confirmed that cabaret can wondrously embrace virtually any type of melody and lyric; if performed with honestly good and great heart.

American critics have since described the Moipei Triplets as a dedicated team of musicians who have since childhood repeatedly melded joy, savvy, fire, beauty, vocal c; clarity, versatility, and rare communicative gifts.

In April the Kenyan girls presented The Water is Wide at the legendary Kennedy Centre with an eclectic mix of styles illustrating how rivers impact our lives with their beauty, majesty and power.

“Last night we got to share the same stage with Ashley Judd at the Kennedy Centre. Such a kind and loving soul,” they posed on their social media pages after a powerful rendition.

And with their grace and unending energy, they are gracing every crucial stage in the US including the Lincoln Centre for the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention and the Birdland in New York.

“It has been ages since I have seen such a remarkable combination of world-class singing, bracingly original arrangements (done by the sisters themselves) of such an eclectic set of material,” read part of a review in Broadway World by critic Peter Danish.

And when performing original arrangements of Berlin, Bernstein, The Beatles and Beyonce, were delivered with razor-sharp accuracy, operatic-level breath control and positively stunning harmonies.

Well, the sisters are currently in Kenya for a short vacation after a national tour of the US that has made them one of the most sought-after groups in Cabaret in the US. “Together at last!’” exclaimed in jubilation, as they had a family reunion with their last-born sister Seraphine and parents Christine and Nicholas Moipei.

The three had together with Serephine performed together when in Kenya and during their first US tour that took them to among other places, President Barack Obama's Church in Chicago South Side.

Their album In The Land of The Lion is an expression of the deep Kenyan heritage of splendour and diversity and a deep appreciation of authentic Maasai Culture, including living in harmony with nature.

“We are proud of the girls and what they have been able to achieve,” said their father, who thanks the almighty for all they have been able to become as a family.
