A man has been ordered to pay a fine of Sh50,000 or face a four-year jail term after pleading guilty to snatching a mobile phone in Nairobi. Brain Otieno, 19, confessed before a Makadara court that he stole a mobile phone worth Sh15,000 belonging to Monica Birech on June 29, 2023, in Nairobi City Centre around 4pm.
He was also charged with handling stolen goods contrary to the law. The court heard, on the material day the complainant was inside a bus headed home when her phone was snatched as she made a call. The bus stopped at the junction of Moi Avenue and Haile Selassie Avenue. The accused person was arrested in Majengo around 5pm the same day by police officers on patrol.
