Threads: No DMs, trends; just vibes

News
 Threads

Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has launched a new app called Threads, which has garnered immense attention with 10 million users joining in under 7 hours. Seen as a direct challenge to Twitter, this app arrives at a time when Twitter's recent limitations on tweet accessibility and paid verification have irked users.

Here are some key highlights about the Threads app that you may have missed:

You cannot delete your threads profile without deleting your Instagram account. it has come to light that deleting a Threads profile on Instagram is not a standalone option. Users looking to remove their Threads profile from the platform will inevitably have to bid farewell to their entire Instagram account.

This is due to the intertwined nature of login credentials, which are shared between the two entities. As Meta, the parent company of Instagram, clarifies, "While you have the option to deactivate your Threads profile independently, deleting it permanently necessitates the deletion of your Instagram account as well." This revelation has raised concerns among users who may wish to retain their Instagram presence while disentangling themselves from the specialized Threads feature.

Despite its user-friendly interface, the Threads app lacks the option to send direct messages (DMs) to people you follow. This omission leaves users without a crucial communication feature.

Saving photos and videos within the Threads app is not possible. Kenyans, who love sharing memes, are limited to sharing directly to Twitter, Instagram posts, or stories, with no option to download or save the content.

Currently, Threads is only available as a mobile app, with no desktop or web version.

Several common features are absent from Threads, including message editing, searching for trending stories, and using hashtags. These missing elements set it apart from its competition, such as Twitter.

The launch of Threads has generated excitement and concern simultaneously, shaking up the social media landscape. As users explore this new platform, its limitations and unique features will undoubtedly shape their experience and opinions.
