The Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP) has reinstated Angela Ndambuki as its Chairperson.
Through a statement seen by Standard Entertainment, the Board of Directors, during a meeting held on June 22, 2023, resolved to reinstate Ndambuki, who had been elected as the first female Chairperson of the Board in January 2023.
During her three-month tenure, Ndambuki was praised for promoting and protecting the rights of music producers as well as leading a group of music representatives to South Africa where KAMP signed a memorandum with the South Africa Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA).
She takes over from Faith Kithele who achieved the extension of KAMP'S operating license for a year and also oversaw the distribution of Sh7,958,176 in the first quarter of 2023.
Ndambuki, who is a lawyer by profession, was previously a member of girl-band Tattu, which comprised Angela Mwandanda and Debbie Asila.
They took over the airwaves in the early 2000s and in a previous interview, Ndambuki said she always loved music since her high school days at Loreto Limuru.
"I was always drawn to forming music groups and I always took part in music festivals. After school I joined Phoenix Players and took part in various musicals before forming Tattu," she told the Nation.
23 years later, her advice to the current crop of musicians is to work smart.
Acknowledging that times have changed, Ndambuki believes artistes should leverage the multiple opportunities in the digital space to make themselves better and earn decent money.
"Leverage social media and platforms like TikTok, Boomplay and Spotify. Brand yourself properly and use that to create more opportunities for yourself.
"Consistency is key but you must also work smart," she said.
