A young man who arrived home while tipsy and threatened to shoot his mother has been charged in court. Lenin Byron Nyakwana is alleged to have threatened his mother without a lawful excuse at their home in the Obama estate in Njiru sub-county, Nairobi, on June 5.
The accused allegedly used the words; "I will become a criminal, acquire a gun, come and shoot you, pia naenza chukua kisu niwandunge alafu nijiue (I can also take a knife and stab you then take my life)."
It is said the words were real threats to the mother who is the complainant in the case.
The accused was also charged with causing a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace for allegedly banging on his parent's bedroom door. The mother was in her bedroom when her son knocked and forced his way in before she could open it.
Nyakwana is said to have confronted his parents inside the bedroom, accusing them of neglecting him and causing him distress.
His mother escorted him into the living room pleading with him to calm down. At the same time, he was accused of banging objects in the room while swearing that he was going to get a gun before returning to kill both his parents and then himself when his mother asked him to stop causing chaos.
Neighbours, who heard the commotion, joined the mother in calming her son, and she was able to escape. She went to Obama police station to report the matter.
Police officers accompanied her to her house where they arrested Nyakwana. However, he denied the charges and was released on Sh100,000 cash bail and Sh150,000 in the alternative. The case is scheduled to come up for mention on July 24 before the trial begins on October 25.
