A police patrol base has been set up in one of the most dangerous student estates near Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
The Kefinco estate police station will be manned by six officers who will help to reduce insecurity affecting students and the rest of the community members.
VC Solomon Shibairo cautioned students about engaging in criminal activities or any other acts that may abet a crime.
"I strongly advise all students to abstain from drug and alcohol abuse. I encourage you to live in university-approved residential areas as a precautionary measure to ensure your security," he said.
Shibairo also asked students to understand sexuality and relationship issues in order to avoid getting caught up in scenarios that may involve the police.
"The estate accommodates nearly 75 per cent of the students residing outside the campus," says Prof Hussein Golicha, DVC Academic and Students Affairs.
