The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, welcomed a host of musicians including Bahati, his wife Diana Marua and KRG The Don.
Speaking after making the switch, Bahati, who unsuccessfully vied for the Mathare MP seat on a Jubilee Party ticket and lost to Anthony Oluoch said he was glad to be back home, away from the tears he shed on the other side.
“I have not spoken since election day and the truth is I cried a lot on the other side. I remember being told to step down for someone else…some told me I would be given a job after the elections.
“I am happy because UDA believes in nurturing the talent of the youth. I know in 2027 UDA will have an MP in Mathare. I wish to thank President William Ruto because he believed in me. I have learnt my lessons and I am happy to be back home as the prodigal son,” said Bahati.
The singer was welcomed by UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala who assured him and other artistes present during the function that the party would champion the rights of artistes and believes in nurturing the youth.
“There is no discrimination in UDA. Every hustle matters and I assure you that you are safe here,” he said.
“UDA has its doors open to Kenyan youths from all walks of life, and pledges to walk the talk on matters youth empowerment in the country.”

Musician Roy Smith Mwatia alias Rufftone, who was also in attendance, lauded Bahati for making the switch saying he often sympathized with him while he was in Jubilee Party.

“UDA is the right party for young people. I used to sympathise a lot with Bahati as he was being taken in circles.
“In UDA he is safe and we will also push for local content to get more airplay,” he said.
At the same time, Rufftone said the party was officially welcoming artistes to compose the UDA anthem and the winner would be given Sh2million.
Other entertainers present during the function included Sammy Boy, Mash Mwana, DK Kwenye Beat and MC Jessy, who said he was delighted to be back home after falling out with the party during the election period.
