Kenyan musician Wahu Kagwi on Wednesday penned a glowing tribute to her late dad, who passed on 10 years ago.

Through posts on her official social media platforms, Wahu recalled how her dad was ever-present in their lives and always made them feel loved.

The singer detailed how her dad would find a way of visiting her in school (knowing she was struggling emotionally) and how he was aware of all the boys she liked.

"As a teenager, he always wanted to meet the boys I liked. He even allowed me to go on dates. I never had to lie.

"I would be able to tell him when I had a crush, when I was heartbroken...and he always listened."

She also wrote about the light moments they had, including when she scored a D+ in Kiswahili and her old man burst out in laughter, perhaps in disbelief.

Painting a picture of an ever-present man, Wahu added that her late dad often stayed up late to help them in their assignments and would always wake her up when he came home late, narrating endless stories with some packed nyama choma on the side.

My wife is my responsibility

Wahu also recalled how her dad always dropped her mum at work and would pass by later in the day to pick her up.

Despite her mum's schedule, Baba Wahu was dedicated and often told them, "That is my wife...I take care of her, not her office."

The singer also revealed that she called him before saying yes to Nameless, asking him to pray with her as she was about to make one of her biggest life decisions.

As the years went by, he developed Alzheimer's, a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.

He could no longer talk much and their conversations were reduced to 'I love you.' Eventually, he rested.

"I was so heart broken when you passed...I literally cried every day for 3 months...but I still remember that morning when I felt you say to me "now Wahu....that's ENOUGH!" You needed me to move on from the depressive state I was in. Well, the scolding worked. I was finally able to get out of bed and get back to "life". 10 years on, we remember you and miss you."
