Former student leader teaching graduates how to hustle

NEWS
Kelvin Mutava.

A former student leader is leading a campaign in the country that seeks to educate youths on available economic opportunities.

Kelvin Mutava, a former student president at Maasai Mara University, hit the headlines after being elected into office by campaigning against the use of ‘mwakenya’ in campus by students.

Mwakenya is a small paper that contains written short notes used by students to cheat during exams.

Mutava held online discussions with university students and graduates on the available economic opportunities they can take up.

“I lead a team of youths where we step in and share ideas on how we can make money after graduation, and for those who are in school, we teach them ways through which they can make good use of their free time,” he said.

The Communication and Journalism graduate also leads his peers toward having a saving culture instead of overspending or misusing money on unnecessary expenses.

Currently, Mutava holds meetings fortnightly and draws students and graduates from 20 universities in the country.

“We also hold discussions that range from respecting the disabled as well as addressing climate change challenges through planting trees,” he added.

Despite the fact that the programme seeks to benefit the graduates and students, Mutava says a number of the attendees cannot keep up with the long time they have to spend online because of lack of internet bundles.

Thus, they have to make the discussion less than an hour.
