Bidco Africa, a top manufacturer of edible oils and cooking fat has defended its products which had been recalled by Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) over compliance issues. On Wednesday 21, September 2022, KEBS recalled ten cooking fat and edible oils including Menengai oil, Bahari Fry, Gold n Pure Olive Gold cooking oils, Kappa Oil and Pwani oil for failing to meet set standards.
In a letter addressed to the Retail Traders Association of Kenya, KEBS argued that the temporary suspension of the brands was not permanent but a cautionary measure, "To facilitate protection of consumers from potentially unsafe products, safeguard economic interest of manufacturers of compliant brands and allow the manufacturers of non-compliant brands to initiate and put in place effective corrective action under KEBS supervision."
In the latest development, Bidco Africa have come out to defend their products arguing that they meet KEBS standards. This is after receiving a clean bill of health -in the parameter of iron content of Maximum 2.5mg/kg - from Bureau Veritas, a leading independent lab in Kenya.

In the same statement, Bidco have assured their consumers of their commitment to the highest quality standards and safe products.
"We wish to reiterate that our commitment to the highest quality standards and our promise to deliver safe products to our consumers still holds true."
