Rugby: Fijian Kubu, Injera headline Simba's squad to World Cup qualifiers

Shujaa veteran Collins Injera and Fijian-born star Jone Kubu will headline the Kenya Simbas travelling for the 2023 Rugby World Cup qualifiers scheduled to take place from next weekend in France.

Injera who played in the last Currie Cup match against South Africa’s Eastern Province Elephants wo weeks ago will lead a mixture of experience and youth as Kenya seeks to qualify for the World Cup.

The Simbas leave the country on Tuesday for the qualifier that will take place in the French cities of Marseille and Aixen.

Kenya will meet Uganda in the quarter-finals on July 2 at Stade Maurice.

Fijian Kubu who missed the last two Currie Cup matches also returns.

Kubu, who helped Kabras Sugar to Kenya Cup victory in March this year, was in Fiji taking some time off with family.

Kabras Sugar captain Daniel Sikuta will captains the squad and will be assisted by Darwin Mukidza and Malcom Onsando.

Six players have been dropped from Kenya Simbas squad.

Simbas head coach Paul Odera on Friday axed locks Brian Ndirangu of Menengai Oilers and Emmanuel Silungi, who ply his professional trade with Yiezreel Rugby Club in Israel when he picked his final traveling team of 28 players.

Scrum-half Brian Wahinya and centre Peter Kilonzo from KCB Rugby and Menengai Oilers fly-half Geoffrey Ominde and winger Beldad Ogeta have also been left out.
