Mombasa Gubernatorial Candidate Mike Sonko has distanced himself from claims that he fathered a 15-year-old child with another woman and refused to pay child support.
Sharing his sentiments in a Twitter thread, the former Nairobi Governor requested that the kid's mother hand over the child for him to raise. Sonko added that the said woman recently lost custody over her two other children to her ex-boyfriend.
"Ati Sonko in trouble as woman takes him to court over child upkeep. Trouble gani sasa? Just like Jesus said "let children come to me..." Am kindly asking the lady alleging that she has my 15 years old kid to bring the kid to me," Sonko tweeted.
According to Sonko, the unidentified woman has formed a habit of using her children to extort money from men, which she, in turn, uses to go clubbing, something he says he will not tolerate.
"This girl uses the kids for blackmail so that she is given money to go clubbing 24/7. I'll give the kid the best of what life has to offer. My family keeps on growing bigger day in day out, I feel happy and blessed adopting orphans, street families and neglected kids in my home," said Sonko.
The flashy politician urged the woman and other ladies out there with children they cannot care for to hand them over to him instead of mistreating them.
“Hiyo part ya kutoanishwa pesa alafu anaenda kudunda 24/7 ndio hatutaelewana ata kidogo na sitoi hata bob. Hata mtoto awe si wangu amlete tu kwangu ata saii nitamlea vizuri. Na pia madem wengine mkifeel hamuezi cope up na kulea watoi msiwadhulumu kivyovote, waleteni kwangu nitawalea. It's hard but fun being Mike Sonko," he wrote.
Sonko's response comes after claims that the woman proceeded to court to sue him for neglecting their said child and demanded Sh448,450 monthly upkeep.
"Mr Sonko has always been defiant and brazen to accept responsibility and assist me with the maintenance of the minor. He has over the years willfully withdrawn support towards the maintenance of the minor thus denying her what is rightfully hers and forcing me to take full responsibility for the minor," read the court papers from the case filed at the Senior Principal Magistrate at Ngong.
