Comedian Peter Wamwea, who was previously a comedian on Churchill Show by the stage name ‘Consumator’ is appealing for financial assistance after hitting tough times.

Consumator took to his social media to reveal that he is now working as a caretaker and has been struggling with not only financial difficulties but the illness of a loved one too.

“Guys I have no problem being a caretaker. I do it with happiness and a smile. I have no problem at all doing vibarua kwa shamba. Anything that would help me raise whatever money for my dad’s illness I will do it with stride and gratitude,” Consumator wrote on his Instagram Stories.

The comedian, in his plight, added that he had been raised in the village through a lot of struggle, a circumstance he is not bitter about despite being at his worst.

“This story is about those small painful steps we must take sometimes in order to make ends meet. Even when we are at our rock bottom we must do all it takes to survive.”

Speaking to Standard Entertainment, Consumator said his troubles began in 2019 when his father was diagnosed with Prostate cancer.

He said that he had to use his savings to help his dad get treatment and at some point, he had to sell everything he owned.

“I had to move in with a friend in Zimmerman and we agreed to cost-share as I tried to make ends meet. At first, everything was smooth but with time I struggled to pay rent.

“I would default for months and my friend grew impatient with me,” he said.

Adding: “One day he kicked me out of the house at night. It was shameful because people around that area knew me. I spent the night out in the cold.”

It was at this point that Consumator, who holds a degree in Community Development, reached out to a former schoolmate who offered some assistance.

“I was desperate and I tried to call my friends for help. One former schoolmate came through for me and told me she was overseeing some rentals in Ngong.

“She offered me shelter for free as I took over caretaker duties at the rentals owned by her family. I was not being given a salary and I was okay with it because at that point I needed shelter,” he said.

The comedian would also do some maintenance work at the property, something he says he did passionately.

“I would slash grass and people would peep through their windows since they knew me from previous comedy shows.

“It was painful, yes but I knew I had to come out,” he remarked.

Comsumator revealed to The Standard that he was initially hesitant to seek help but he now feels relieved and is looking to rebuild himself.

“Sharing my story has led other people to also come out and highlight some of their difficult experiences.

“Soon I intend to start a show that will give the public a platform to speak about these things without being judged. I do not have the finances now but the concept is ready,” said Consumator who said he can also develop various concepts for products.
