Jada Pinkett Smith has shared her first public post after the drama that marred the Oscars on Monday morning.
Taking to Instagram, Jada stated that it is a season for healing.
“This is a season for healing and I am here for it,” read a post she shared.
This follows an incident at the Oscars pitting his husband Will Smith and comedian Chris Rock. During the awards ceremony, Rock made a G.I. Jane joke about Jada that did not go down well with Smith.
Smith walked to the stage and slapped Rock, later warning him against making such jokes about his wife.
On Tuesday, Smith apologized for his actions, saying he reacted emotionally.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” he wrote in part.
Smith said violence has no place in the ‘world of love’ and he is embarrassed because what happened does not portray who he is. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
He also apologized to the Academy and all those who were following the ceremony around the worlds saying he deeply regrets that his behavior overshadowed a beautiful journey for his colleagues and family.
