Jah Cure facing up to eight years in prison

News
 Jah Cure

Siccature Alcock popularly known as Jah Cure has been locked up since October last year.

The Unconditional Love singer faces a raft of charges including attempted manslaughter, aggravated assault or attempted aggravated assault in relation to an alleged stabbing incident last year.

The prosecution yesterday, March 8, recommended an eight-year sentence, with credit for time served.

According to Het Parool, a daily Amsterdam newspaper, the Netherlands court was not aware of Jah Cure’s celebrity status when he appeared before the judges to answer his charges.

“I got stuck with Bob Marley,” the senior judge admitted at the start of the hearing.

“Then you should google my name, that would surprise you,” Jah Cure responded from the dock.

Jah Cure has had several brushes with the law. In November 1998, while driving he was pulled over by the police and arrested on charges of gun possession, robbery and rape.

In April 1999, he was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Where he was transferred to a correction center that had a digital recording studio. He was released in 2007 after serving eight of the 15 years.

While in prison Cure released three albums and a number of singles. His first album ‘Free Jah's Cure The Album the Truth’ was released in 2000, it was followed by ‘Ghetto Life’ in 2003 and ‘Freedom Blues’ in 2005. His fourth album ‘True Reflections...A New Beginning’ was released barely four days after leaving the prison.

The last time Jah Cure was in Kenya was during the much-publicised Umoja Splash festival; when he was on the African leg of his worldwide tour dubbed ‘The Royal Soldier Tour’ in 2019.
