Former Tahidi High actor Joseph Kinuthia aka Omosh has apologised to Kenyans following his remarks over the weekend and a viral video where he appeared drunk.
Making the apology during an interview, Omosh said he didn't think his actions would anger Kenyans, adding that he regrets what he did.
"Have you ever done something and wondered, 'why did I do that?' You even go ahead and hate yourself for doing it. You do something and feel 'Oh my God, I wish I never did it?' Reason being? I knew I had annoyed Kenyans. You do something, but you don't think it would annoy anyone.
"I never thought Kenyans would get that angry; I thought they would take Omosh as a joker. But they took it seriously because they actually chipped in, they fought for it, they fought for my upcoming again. So Kenyans, please, I know you are forgiving, and I just have to repeat, I'm your brother, so please forgive me, I am so sorry. You will never hear that from me again, but what you'll hear is my entertainment," apologized Omosh.
Omosh was trending on Twitter over the weekend after asking Kenyans for financial help, saying the people who had promised to help him out earlier never fulfilled their promises.
In an interview with TV47, Omosh claimed he received less than Sh1million from well-wishers but went broke after he used the money he got to settle debts.
“Manze kama ulisema unanitumia kakitu kwani kaliendaje? Bado nategea tu… Kusema tu uwkeli nilipata less than Sh1 million shillings. Nikalipa madeni, chuo ya watoi, juu nilikuwa nimekaa one year, four months bila kulipa.
“Nililipa Madeni nikabaki zero, so sai madeni zinaweza kuja nikicheza... but so far chuo, hao, food… Manze mnidunge kakitu bana... Tuma kakitu,” said Omosh.
Omosh even went ahead and asked Kenyans to help him secure a camera, tripod, lights, and a microphone for his comedy production.
"Sai nikapata mtu aninunulie tu camera, tripod, lights mbili na microphone, sasa ni wache kuomba. Juu huyo jamaa atakuwa amenipatia capital ingine ile wacha tu," added Omosh.
However, in a twist of events, it seems that his message rubbed Kenyans the wrong way as many called him out for taking advantage of well-wishers.
Media personality Jalang'o, who had mobilized Kenyans to help out Omosh and his family, called out the former actor for misinforming Kenyans, saying he received more than what he claimed he did.
Jalang'o stated that while on his show, Omosh got more than Sh700,000 in cash while other well-wishers sent their contribution via his account and phone number.
Politician Alinur Mohamed also said he was disappointed with Omosh after pointing out that he gave the actor food worth 60K, plus 100K in cash.
Days after his interview, a video of him drunk emerged, which got Kenyans furious and demanded his immediate admission into rehab.
Before his apology, Omosh, in a viral video, stated he did not understand why Kenyans kept asking him how he spent the money, adding that he was not forcing anyone to help him.
“Nilikuwa na mashida mingi sana lakini bado mashinda haziishangi. Ndo Maana nilikua nakusho kama unajiskia, si ati nilikuwa Nalazimisha. Manze joo mlinitoa kwa shimo na nashukuru sana..Ma bloggers wachaneni na mimi…hata soon nafungua keja na tutachoma mbuzi hapa..so hiyo ndo inafaa kutrend,” said Omosh.
