Hailey Bieber has opened up about the toll that negative attention fired at her via social media has taken on her mental health. The 24-year-old American model, media personality, and socialite says that she has “consistent” therapy to help her overcome the abuse she receives online.

Hailey says that being married to Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber, 26, means she also has a best friend who knows exactly what she is going through. The blonde babe has grown up in the spotlight as she is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and graphic designer Kennya Deodato Baldwin.

Opening up to Women’s Health UK in their podcast Going for Goal, released today, Hailey got candid as she explained why she opted to work with a therapist to combat the abuse she receives online.

She said: “The way that I’ve dealt with a lot of the negative attention is…I’ve talked it a lot through with a therapist, and I do therapy consistently.”

Revealing that Justin has been a shoulder as well as a husband, she went on: “I’m also married to someone that’s been dealing with this a lot longer than I have, to an extremely, like the highest level it could possibly be.”

And Hailey hints that this has brought her closer to her husband, adding: “I think being able to share that world with somebody that understands it even better than I do has been so helpful.”

As she expanded on the abuse she receives, Hailey explained that she has grown to accept that not everyone in the world is going to like her.

She said: “The biggest thing for me with social media was the battle of...for a while strangers made me feel like I had to explain myself, when the reality is, I don’t owe them anything. It took me a while to get there and understand that, because I’m kind of a perfectionist and I don’t want people to hate me or be mad at me.

“I want to be like ‘Hey I’m actually not this person that you think I am’. I just realised that there’s people on the internet that, no matter what you say and do, they want to just hate you because they are not happy with themselves.”

She added: “The more I’ve been able to break that down with a therapist [and] the more I realise it has nothing to do with me, or my personal character, I felt a lot more freedom.”
