In November 2015, an unidentified person created a fake account in the name of Simeon Nyachae’s son Charles and announced the death of the veteran politician and businessman. Charles had to move fast to Twitter to announce that the death report was false. And through his own handle, he posted to deny the false news: “Some person or persons created a fake Twitter account @charles_nyachae and earlier this evening tweeted that my father had died. Not true!!” the East Africa Court of Justice judge posted.

In mid-2019, the family was again caught up in the wave of fake news about death of the former powerful provincial administrator, but no member of the family came out to correct the erroneous claims. About 10 days ago, another wave of news of Nyachae’s death hit social media platforms, forcing the family, again through Charles, to refute the claims.

The family, however, disclosed that the former Cabinet minister and administrator had been admitted to Nairobi Hospital where he was being treated. Nyachae’s last public appearance was during the burial of former North Mugirango MP Livingstone Marita in August 2017. During the funeral, Nyachae, who was in a wheelchair, had to be supported to rise to his feet to address mourners.
