Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, is unhappy about people who always wait to hear both sides of a story when a woman comes out with domestic violence claims. Taking her frustrations to her social media pages, the seemingly angry Simi said that many women are unsafe in their own homes.
"Alleged human beings responding to a woman (possibly risking her life) calling out horrible physical abuse from her husband saying "I want to hear both sides of the story". What is wrong with you???," she tweeted adding that, "Many women are unsafe in their own homes. "Be patient. "Pray for your husband." "What of the kids?" So traumatic."
Simi's reaction was triggered by social media outburst following confessions of Ifeanyinwa Angbo, the wife of Nigeria's popular Journalist identified as Pius Angbo. In a video clip that has since been doing rounds in Nigeria's social streets, Ifeanyinwa claimed that Pius had been physically abusing her for about six years.
"Hello people, my name is Ifeanyi Angbo. I'm a doctor and I've been married to Pius Angbo of Channels Television for six years. And for six years, I've not known peace. It's been from one girl to a different. I simply had a child from a caesarean part nearly 4 weeks in the past," said Ifeanyinwa.

This is not the first time the celebrated star is coming out to condemn such acts. Last month, the Duduke hitmaker expressed worry over the continuous abuse of women in Nigeria. In a series of tweets shared via her Twitter page, the singer described what women go through every day as worrisome and heartbreaking.
"Woman don suffer sha. The kind of sh*t I see/hear many women go through every day could break your heart. It's so bad that many women even think they deserve suffering because they're women. I mean "why else should I suffer this much if I don't deserve it." My heart man. Broken heart," she tweeted.
The 32-year-old singer also urged women to speak up and not tolerate any gender-based discrimination against them. Simi added that she could not wait for the days when women will outrightly demand respect.

"I pray that we start to raise women that demand the respect they deserve and never settle for a life that continuously diminishes them. We can be more. We are more," she added.
Simi's sentiments come when conversations on domestic violence are taking center stage in Nigeria. According to investigations by the Pulitzer Centre, COVID-19 lockdown leads to increased sexual and gender violence in the country. Sadly, the United Nations documented more than 3600 cases of rapes during the COVID-19 lockdown in Nigeria.
A report prepared by The work of the Women's Crisis Centre in Umuaka community, southeast Nigeria, suggested that husbands use threats of divorce to perpetrate violence against women.
