Harry Styles has made Vogue history by becoming the first male to appear solo on the cover of the US edition since it was first printed 128 years ago. The One Direction star was plucked to front the coveted December issue where he poses up in a revealing off-the-shoulder coat.

Harry, 26, gave a glimpse of his tattooed torso underneath the mesh and fishnet trench coat, which was left unbuttoned and belted at his waist. The heartthrob showed off his model credentials as he gave a smouldering look to the camera with his signature curls gently slicked into a quiff for his shoot.

Vogue has only had a few male stars grace its covers since its first issue in 1892 - and only then when they were pictured with their other halves. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian achieved the feat before their highly anticipated 2014 wedding. Before that, Cindy Crawford and her then husband Richard Gere made the cover in their 1990s heyday.

Ben Stiller was also granted the front page to promote his 2017 movie Zoolander 2, alongside co-star Penélope Cruz. In demand Harry, who released his second solo album last year, has come a long way since his days as a wannabe boyband star on ITV talent show The X Factor.

The Worcestershire born singer shot to fame under Simon Cowell's guidance, alongside Liam Payne, Nial Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson. After One Direction's hiatus, Harry's solo career has gone from strength to strength as he continues to embrace his individual sound and style. Last month, he sent fans into a frenzy with the stylish video release for latest single Golden.
