Kenyans react as Kalekye Mumo’s parents mark 50 years of marriage

At a time when divorces are common, couples who stick it out through thick and think are often lauded. This was the case as Kalekye Mumo’s parents marked 50 years of marriage in an intimate celebration on August 16. Via Facebook, the former TV and radio host shared photos of the celebration while expressing gratitude to God for witnessing her parents celebrate 50 years of marriage. According to Kalekye, they organized the family-only affair by themselves, proof that she could be an event’s planner and makeup artist if she puts her mind to it.

“We did it. We gave my parents a small wedding on DIY to celebrate their 50th anniversary with immediate family only. With Covid-19 I am learning that we can do so much on our own at less and still make beautiful occasions. I am also learning I can be a makeup artist & an event planner if I put my mind to it...

“I want to thank God for blessing us with the opportunity to see our parents love 50yrs on. Thank you, Jesus,” she wrote.

The fact that her parents had spent five decades together was not lost on netizens who flocked her comments section, with one inquiring when Kalekye will get married to which she responded: “When God says so.”
