From next week, Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) will be required to adhere to strict measures aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 through the transport industry. According to the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) website, PSV operators need to obtain a public service transport operator compliance form duly filled by the ministries of Interior and Health. To apply, the operators are also required to download and fill the compliance certificate and print two copies of each document. One copy is to be retained at the County Commissioner's office and the other by the operators. After every 30 days, the PSV operators will be required to resubmit the applications for validating failure to which their clearance will be revoked.
Days to the deadline, some PSV operators have already changed the seating arrangements to comply with Covid-19 social distancing guidelines. The following are the requirements which transport operators are supposed to comply with before clearance to commence and during operations:
1. Functional thermal guns to take passengers’ temperature readings.
2. Surgical masks for the crew.
3. Hand sanitizers aboard every vehicle.
4. Handwashing facilities at SACCO ticket booking office or passenger boarding points.
5. Physical distancing of 1.5 metres at the SACCO ticket booking office and passenger boarding points.
