Radio presenter Angela Angwenyi is back on radio for the first time in five years. Through a Facebook post on June 29, Angwenyi described feeling nervous before her debut show on Sierra Leone-based AYV Radio.

“So it’s raining cats and dogs outside...First day back on air after 5yrs of being off radio, nerves galore…Wish me luck. Sierra Leone let’s do this!” she wrote.

According to posters she shared, Angwenyi will be co-hosting the breakfast show every weekday from 7:30 am- 10:30 am.

The radio station describes itself as “Sierra Leone’s foremost media house dealing in the business of media broadcasting in Radio, TV, Print and Media Production with the aim of redefining media in Sierra Leone and beyond.”

The former Nation FM and Kiss 100 presenter first dropped a hint on her new gig on June 23 by sharing a photo with the words “something big is coming 29.06.2020. Save the date.”

House put on auction

Less than a year ago, Angwenyi’s Jacaranda Gardens house was put up for auction after she ran into financial difficulties. However, her woes started earlier after Out of The Box Solutions, a company linked to her was implicated in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

The company had landed a Sh302 million contract to conduct sensitization campaigns targeting women, youth and persons with disabilities under the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPRO) program. After receiving Sh90.7 million, payments were allegedly halted and she appeared before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to explain how she won the tender by the Ministry of Devolution and National Planning.

Consequently, her Housing Finance account was frozen for 90 days following an application by the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA).

Publicist

In her heydays, Angwenyi was also a leading PR manager and worked as a publicist for Nigeria’s D’Banj and the Chocolate City label. She was the only Kenyan invited to the wedding of ex P- Square singer Peter Okoye in Lagos but skipped the event citing her busy schedule.

“I have been very busy preparing with Victoria Kimani for the Channel O awards in South Africa. In fact I’m at the Embassy as we speak,” she told Pulse at the time.
