Earlier this week, Nacada Director Vincent Mwasia, popularly known as Chipukeezy, posted an emotional video.

He was in the Kibera slums where, accompanied by other agency staff, he had gone on a mission to rescue veteran dancehall artiste MC Bayo who is reported to have sadly sunk into addiction and depression.

The once burly-sized Bayo, who shot to fame years ago through his club banger Light at the End of the Tunnel looked pale, bewildered and underweight.

So popular was the hit song that he once got acknowledgement from renowned reggae icon Freddie McGregor, who termed the jam a “big tune”.

“He had incredible vocals and he really inspired us long before we started our music,” says a member of H_Art the Band. Sadly, many who surrounded him during his prominence ditched him as soon as they realised his well-being was south-bound.

“I’ve known him for a long time and when I got wind of his condition, I assigned Nacada director Chipukeezy to come to his rescue. He was a very talented artist and we are hoping he will soon recover from the professional help from a government-run rehabilitation centre,” said Starehe MP Jaguar, adding that he was aware that a lot of the youth are slowly getting sucked into drug addiction and depression, especially with this pandemic.

“We are currently taking him to one of the best rehab centres in the country,” said Chipukeezy as he called on fans to support Bayo.

He added the artiste would receive medication and all his basic needs until he recovers.
