There was panic at the Likoni channel after the new ferry MV Safari drifted out into the open sea and stalled for more than two hours.
The vessel which was laden with dozens of vehicles from the Likoni mainland to Mombasa Island was on its first trip since its arrival from Turkey on April 25 and after its launch on Wednesday.
According to Kenya Ferry Services MD Bakari Gowa the incident was caused by an inexperienced coxswain "who was navigating it for the first time and he panicked over the new machine."
