Club Covid: DCI detectives summon Xtian Dela over controversial program

Blogger Arthur Mandela popularly known as Xtian Dela has been summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters over controversial content on his social media platforms. The blogger alerted his online followers that he was at DCI headquarters to record a statement over a show on his Instagram account dubbed ‘Club Covid’.

“Just got summoned by the DCI because of Club Covid. Currently at DCI HQ,” he said.

Earlier on, Dela had informed his fans that the show would not be able to air this week.

“Hey guys, unfortunately, I won’t be able to come back today or this week too. A lot is happening behind the scenes. Lots of battles being fought. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the support,” he said.

Mandela has been accused of sharing obscene material in his show. This comes barely a month after three parents sued the blogger over the alleged explicit Instagram live show. The three parents were seeking to have him stopped from airing the late-night show with immediate effect.

Morosi King, Anthony Wahome Kamunyi and Francis Karanja, through Ngugi Mburu Advocates, described themselves as patriotic parents who are concerned with the welfare of their children. They claimed the blogger is infringing on the rights of teenagers.

In the demand letter dated Friday, April 10, their lawyer stated that the show attracts over 25,000 viewers who vote for the sum of money that should be paid to an individual entertainer, who takes home between Sh1,000 and Sh 20,000.

In a response by his lawyers, Mandela cheekily told off the three parents accusing them of trying to ‘kill his vibe’ with the top viewed Instagram live stream.

“The aim of the live event is to suppress the anxiety and stress brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic something that even the government has been calling for,” part of the response read.

The document also highlighted Xtian’s knowledge of social media usage and laws regarding content and distribution of the said content on a social media platform.
