A former women representative aspirant was recently charged in court over claims of stealing and issuing a bad cheque.

Winnie Wanja Wainaina was accused of stealing vehicle tyre valued at Sh35,000 on December 31, 2018, in Nairobi’s Ngara area. Police said the property belonged to Eden Rent a Car Tours and Safaris.

She is also alleged to have issued a bad cheque for Sh306,000 in favour of the said company’s account with consolidated bank Koinange branch knowing that her account had no sufficient funds.

Police said that Wanja two called the company two years ago requesting for a car to hire for Sh9,000 per day.

She got the car but took long to pay the company prompting the administrator to call her on the issue of payment. She allegedly issued two bad cheques on separate occasions, after which the case was reported to police in January 2018.

Police said she would later go underground and abandoned the vehicle with a missing tyre at a petrol station. Wanja was arrested two years later.

Kamukunji OCS Samir Yunisi in his affidavit told Makadara court that the accused has been in conflict with her mother over property and had attempted to steal from her and that she had also absconded police bond.
