A Sh100 million school library will be built at world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge’s home in Nandi County.
It follows a directive from President Uhuru Kenyatta, to honour the athletics hero.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha visited St Peters Kapsisiywa High School to deliver the cheque, which will cater the construction of a modern and expansive library, laboratory and improving classrooms to offer standard academic studies to more than 300 students.
The 34-year-old Kipchoge set unprecedented record in the most hyped race in the world of marathon last month, crossing the finish line in 1:59:40 in Vienna, Austria.
“As per the president's promise for construction of academic facilities, the money is to elevate the physical infrastructure and build a new library fully equipped with books and modern learning facilities,” said the CS.
Chesumei MP Wilson Kogo, who hosted the CS, lauded the government for setting up projects to benefit the community, adding that such initiatives will assist the youth, even in sports.
“We support the government's offer to residents of Kapsisiywa, the facility will help mould intellectuals of the future,” said Kogo.
