In March 2019, popular gospel singer Ben Cyco went bald in support of his younger sister, Joy Wairuri, after she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

According to Cyco’s family, Wairuri needed Sh11.5 million for specialized chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant abroad.

Through a Youtube channel run by his girlfriend, Wanjiru Njiru, Ben –at the time- opened up about her Wairuri’s health.

“My sister has been sick for a while now I think we are talking about 4-5months. It’s been hell, it’s been crazy because of the emotion, there’s something it does to you,” he said.

“She started to have problems with her menses, shed cramp for 2-3 weeks and rapidly lost weight. She started turning white. Her fingernails, her eyes, her lips, her tongue, that’s when we knew something was wrong and rushed her to the hospital and they did a biopsy test and found out she had cancer,” said Cyco.

October, has, however, ushered a new dawn for his family.

Wairuri has successfully completed the treatment in India and is now a cancer-free.

Thanking those who supported them during the hard time, Cyco revealed that his sister beat the odds and has gone back to school.

“Small sis hair growing back and I love the new look @_fu.raha_. She battled cancer and she beat it, she was declared cancer-free and she came back and she’s even going to school.

“You guys called, prayed, and even gave your money towards her treatment and I would like to say thank you for that, may God remember your good works in your time of need.

“I can’t thank you enough guys, God is so good. Let’s be there for anyone in such a situation through prayers, money and even encouraging words,” part of his post read.

The ‘Like You’ hitmaker also took the opportunity to urge his followers to get screened for cancer.

“Finally, let’s get screened, I’ve never done it myself and I don’t have a legit reason for that, maybe it’s the fear, but it’s time we rise above that, This is an appreciation post to all of you guys thank you.”
