Deputy President William Ruto was on Friday, August 23, all smiles after he reunited with a former schoolmate while on tour of Luanda, Vihiga County.

Sharing the hearty moment with Kenyans, DP Ruto posted photos of him at the dais with Sospeter Ojuwang, a man he said was his colleague at Wareng High School over 30 years ago.

“Delighted to meet and reunite with Sospeter Ojuwang, a former schoolmate at Wareng High School, Eldoret during my visit to Luanda, Vihiga County. We reminisced on the good days of our youth, enjoyed a hearty laugh and wished him well,” tweeted the DP.

Born in 1966 in Sambut village, Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, Ruto struggled to make ends meet during his yesteryears and sold chicken by the roadside around 1978 to 1980.

"When you hear me talking about hustling, it's not a joke. Around 1978, 79 and 80, I used to sell hens for Sh12 to Sh14. I used to do it near a railway line. When I see people selling kales, I know how they feel. It's not an easy job," said Ruto at a function in Dagoretti South.

He attended Kerotet Primary School and later joined Wareng Secondary School in 1981 for his Ordinary Levels before proceeding to Kapsabet Boys High School for his Advanced Levels.

Ruto then joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) where he was an avid Christian Union (CU) member with the love of his life, Rachel Ruto - an alumnus of Butere Girls Secondary School.

“I would walk along Soi – Kogo Road from my parents’ home in Sugoi to meet Rachel in Likuyani,” said Ruto when he visited Sango Primary School in Kakamega County.

On graduating with a Botany and Zoology degree in 1990, the DP later enrolled for an MSc in Plant Ecology and graduated in 2011.

21 December 2018 was his crowning moment in his quest for higher education when he graduated with a PhD from the same university in a ceremony attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
