Charlotte Willmore (Allison Williams), a classically-trained cellist struggling to cope with the passing of her mother, returns to the performance world after an extended hiatus. There she re-encounters her former music instructor Anton (Steven Weber), his wife Paloma (Alaina Huffman), and fellow prodigy Elizabeth (Logan Browning). The encounter sends the musicians down a sinister path with shocking consequences.

Thumbs up:

This is a pleasure to watch. This feminist fright sent straight from the bowels of hell will extract reactions from you like you could never imagine. You change who you want the protagonist to be multiple times. The mind games in this movie plays with your psyche. Starring Allison ‘Get Out’ Williams, Steven Weber and Logan Browning it has no problems with its cast at all, solid performers who deliver great performances here. The production values are great, the soundtrack is near flawless and it has one of those plots the more you think about afterwards, the more bafflingly ridiculous it gets. It’s basically a suspense, thriller and horror with a comedic twist.

Thumbs Down:

The editing felt rushed like they were too busy trying to shock and trick the viewer rather than to build up any real tension. You might also find it hard to shake off the feeling that Netflix was trying to cash in on the #MeToo movement. If you look at it as a B movie though, it’s entertaining in that respect. The ending was also a little cliché, lacking any imagination.

Verdict:

Probably would not recommend to those who have uneasy stomachs. Your tolerance for this sort of thing may vary, so watch the trailer first.
