A man has on Thursday morning chained himself to a fence near City Hall, Nairobi, demanding an audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Clad in a red shirt and grey trouser, he has reportedly refused to budge after wrapping himself with a chain that he fastened with a silver lock.

According to a post by Governor Mike Sonko, the man is threatening to hang himself should his demands not be met.

"Whoever is near city hall. Huyu jamaa ako hapo sai anasema kama haoni President uhuru sai anajinyonga. One word for him," posted Sonko.

The unnamed individual is also seeking to meet Senator Johnson Sakaja and Langata Member of Parliament Nixon Korir.

The man’s bold move is reminiscent of a tactic perfected by human rights activist Okiya Omtatah.

On January 2008, Omtatah created a spectacle at Vigilance House after he chained himself to the perimeter fence of Police Headquarters.

Clutching a rosary, the activist was, however, unceremoniously forced to cut his protest short after his huge padlock was hammered free by police.

He was consequently arrested.
