The story of one Erastus Ofula, the man who made his wife his utmost responsibility after she suffered a massive stroke that left her paralyzed warmed the hearts of thousands of Kenyans with the love and care he showed her despite her condition.
However, Erastus’s hope of seeing his wife back on her two feet were sadly shattered after Roseline Mumo Ofula passed on.
Erastus confirmed the demise of his wife who died on Wednesday, 3 July and thanked everyone who encouraged and prayed for his family.
Stroke
According Erastus, on 23 August 2018 his wife started convulsing in the house and fell down. Little did he know the impact his wife’s fall would have on his family.
“When I tried to wake her up, she was falling on either side. She could not sit stably. We had to rush her to hospital,” he said.
Tests were run and the diagnosis was devastating – pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.
“She had suffered a massive stroke on her right side. There was a blood clot in her chest and another in her leg,” Ofula says.
It was advised that she needed specialised treatment so Ofula arranged for her to be moved to Nairobi Hospital.
Roseline was hospitalized for close to 10 months then taken back home since the bills were becoming too much.
“When we came from hospital, we used to have a 24-hour nurse, but the hospital would charge us Sh130,000 a month. I had to terminate that arrangement and talk to my house-help to assist me, of course with a raise,” Ofula says.

For better for worse
Erastus Ofula vowed to stick by his wife despite her condition, as he had promised on their wedding day, a move that moved many. ‘

"I stay focused because this is one of the biggest vows I made when I was marrying her, to stay with her for better or worse, in sickness and in health...I decided to stay with her because of the vows," Erastus said.
