About two weeks ago, Pulse broke the news about new gospel artiste travelling to South Africa to shoot her new song.
However, what nobody knew is the fact that she was in the company of Daddy Owen, which raised our curiosity as to what in particular his mission was there. Two weeks on, we have the answers.
The young beauty who is still working hard to create her niche in the gospel music industry was in South Africa to record two songs, one of which will feature the award-winning gospel star.
"We have just returned to Nairobi after two weeks of hard work down in South Africa and I can say working with Daddy Owen was an eye-opener. He is a mature and experienced artiste and I believe the song I recorded with him will be a big collabo,” Judy told Pulse on Wednesday.
However, even as the world awaits the unveiling of the said collabo, yesterday, Judy, a cheerful easy-going girl released a new gospel jam Ibada, the first release from the South Africa trip. It is a feel-good track that presents her as a model urban singer, a new image she says is what she wants to be associated with.
"I am young and my music would remind you of Mary Mary, the gospel duo that brought you hits such as Go Get it and Shackles. I feel that we have a vacuum for that in Kenya and as much as I would like to be versatile, that is the kind of image I want to relate with the audience I am addressing right now,” Judy told Pulse.
"I grew up in Mathare and was brought up in a very humble way and what I want to show the world is that all things are possible. There is hope for anyone to prosper and live the good life God intends for them if only they can trust and walk in faith,” she notes.
Born Judy Wanjiku, the 28-year-old upcoming star started off her singing career in church where she discovered her singing talent. The seventh born in a family of 10, she defied the challenges of being born in a not so privileged family to let her star shine before she was discovered by Maliza Umaskini, the stable that has signed her now.
"Ibada, my new song is a praise song that also features some young dancers we hired in South Africa. The sleek car you see in the video is also made to give the video that youthful urban feel that I talked about embracing,” she tells us.
Having launched her professional singing career with her debut single Ni Wewe before the follow up song Loco, Judy says the challenges of growing in the slums gave her many lessons most of which she took positively.
“It is not easy growing in the slums but when you find out that God has a good lesson to teach the world from everything, then you embrace life positively knowing that all will turn into a good testimony,” she concludes.
