Exciting competition to find, crown Kenya’s best amateur baker is here!

News

Passionate amateur bakers across the country are in for a life-changing experience courtesy of a new show The Great Kenyan Bake Off (TGKBO).

A spinoff from the much acclaimed The Great British Bake Off, TGKBO was unveiled on Wednesday 17 at the serene Le Grenier a Pain complex situated at 9 Riverside, Westlands, Nairobi.

Sponsored by UNGA Limited group and anchored by the Standard Media Group as its media partner, TGKBO will offer talented bakers an opportunity to battle it out for the top price.

Speaking during the event, Unga Group CEO Nicholas Hutchinson said that UNGA Limited has been part of Kenyan traditions for decades and that it was an honor to provide a platform for young bakers to make a mark.

“For us at UNGA it is very exciting, we celebrated our 110th year anniversary just the other day and to celebrate this legacy and traditions one of the issues we have is that for the new emerging populations UNGA doesn’t mean very much and this for us is important as we try to move forward and connect our brands with you and other emerging bakers. We are very excited about the Inspiring a Nation to Bake theme. It is a chance for Kenya to enjoy,” said Hutchinson.

The event was also graced by the who’s who in the baking and communications industry including but not limited to PSCU Digital Communications Director Dennis Itumbi.

Itumbi praised the organizers for rolling out the competition that he says will impact skill, build experience and create opportunities for the youth.

“Cakes have a story and that is the bottom-line,” said Itumbi.

Speaking on the sidelines, Chef Nick said that TGKBO was a chance for the baker at heart to shine.

“This show could not have come at a better time. The space is great, the time is right, the talent is ripe and the need for it is unmeasurable. It has a huge potential in the country and offers an unmatched platform for bakers across the board. I know it will project an excellent outlook on baking and in terms of our viewers, it will give them new material,” said Nick.

On TGKBO, one contestant will be eliminated while another will be named the star baker each week in a mouth-watering march to crown Kenya’s ultimate baker.
