Tharaka Nithi man shocks residents, confesses he enjoys snake, dog meat

A man from Tharaka Nithi has shocked residents after confessing he eats snakes, lizards and dog meat.

Speaking to The Nairobian, Peter Muthengi revealed that he learnt about the unique ‘delicacies’ from an old man.

“There was this old man called Kiriamagu, which literally means ‘wasp eater,’ who introduced me to these food. He used to eat all types of meat and rarely fell sick. He told me that was his secret to healthy life,” Muthengi said.

He revealed that he can flesh of all reptiles, apart from the chameleon. He says that he also doesn’t eat mosquitoes because they are too “tiny to chew.”

“I can eat all types of snakes apart from cobra, which wasn’t palatable especially when I mixed its flesh with chicken meat,” Muthengi said.

Asked if this is not against the Bible, Muthengi was quick to defend himself.

“I can also quote the Bible. 1 Corinthians 10:25 permits us to eat everything sold in the meat market without raising any questions. That verse inspires me when eating these types of meat,” said Muthengi, adding that whenever a fly falls in his tea or soup, he readily swallows it.

Muthengi, who has introduced his wife to his ‘preferred meals’, says he buys a lizard for about Sh20, though the price depends on size.

“A roasted lizard smells just like fish and is usually very delicious,” he says.
