Two-time Olympic champion David Rudisha is in mourning.
Rudisha’s father Daniel Matasi Rudisha passed away yesterday, March 6, after succumbing to illness in Kilgoris.
Through a statement, Athletics Kenya mourned the passing of Daniel as a remarkable, devoted pioneer athlete who did his nation proud.
It is with great sadness that we at Athletics Kenya learned of the passing of one of pioneer Kenyan athlete, Daniel Rudisha.
“On behalf of the athletics fraternity, we would like to send our deepest condolences to Rudisha’s family and the people Kilgoris at this difficult time.
“We mourn with you and celebrate the extraordinary life of this remarkable athlete who devoted his life to athletics,” read a statement from Athletics Kenya.
On Tuesday, the 800m world record holder posted a photo of his critically ill father in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) saying he was in need of prayers.
Rudisha senior was part of the 4x400m team that won silver in the 1968 Olympic Games.
