Honestly ladies, if you are over the age of 24 and you still accept dates from men you don’t particularly like just to get a free meal or free drinks, you are a disgrace to your gender.
Millennials have even coined a name for it; sneating or sneak eating. Sneating is when a woman goes out with a man simply because she wants to eat at a nice restaurant without incurring the expenses.
Another subtler form of sneating is when a woman deliberately orders the most expensive items on the menu, items she wouldn’t necessarily order if she was out by herself or with her girlfriends, because she has a man with her who is going to foot the bill.
We have all seen the ratchet women who frequent high-end hotel bars and sit at the counter, and then order cheap drinks like brown-bottle beers, which they nurse for hours. But when a man offers to buy them a drink, they ask for top-shelf liquor.
This is also sneating. As far as ratchet behaviour goes, this has to be the most appalling in my books. For heaven’s sake, ladies, unless you enjoy looking like a mooching skunk, order the same thing you were drinking when a man offers to buy you a drink.
Anyway, there is this 28-year-old friend of a friend who is shamelessly sneating her way through life. Since she discovered Tinder two months ago, her life took a turn for the better, or so she thinks.
She is an unemployed single mum with expensive tastes and a thirst for the finer things in life. She lives with her parents who provide for her and her child, but they are not wealthy enough to cater for her expensive tastes.
When she stumbled upon Tinder, she realised that, contrary to the popular catchphrase, she can live a champagne life on a soda budget!
She is a somewhat attractive woman with an eye-catching derriere and ample bosom, so I can imagine that she gets a lot of attention on this infamous dating app and she is taking full advantage of it!
She accepts dates indiscriminately, just so she can get free meals. Young, old, local, foreign, married or unattached, it doesn’t matter. As long as the man in question can buy her drinks and food, she’s all in.
I met up with her and our mutual friend the other day and she started bragging about all the posh eating and drinking establishments she frequents, thanks to her escapades on Tinder.
And she has the Instagram feed to prove it! She was telling us that the previous day she had three dates with three different men!
She met with one for breakfast at a popular eatery in the CBD, then headed to a chic restaurant in a five star hotel in town to meet with the second guy for lunch, and finally had drinks and bitings with the third guy at an upscale bar later that evening. The thing that irked the most about it was how proud she was of it.
If I were so broke and desperate that I had to rely on random men to get a decent meal, I would keep that shit to myself! It is nothing to brag about. The bottom line is, sneating is acceptable if you are in your late teens and early twenties.
By the time you hit 24, you should have your shit together and have enough self-respect not to sell your dignity for a plate of food and a cocktail.
