A video depicting students hanging dangerously from a moving school bus has attracted the ire of Kenyans.
In the undated footage, students can be seen hanging from the windows oblivious of the dangers they’re exposing themselves to.
The footage, recorded by a concerned motorist trailing the bus reveals that the vehicle belongs to Kiriath-Jiam School in Utawala, Nairobi.
Seemingly in a celebratory mood, it is not yet clear whether the students were celebrating the just released KCPE results.
Concerned Kenyans called on the Inspector General of police Joseph Boinett to take action against the institution.
‘Michuki rules’
This comes barely a week after the reintroduction of the ‘Michuki rules’ aiming to curb road carnage.
Speaking on November 20, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) director-general Francis Meja said that officers of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) will be involved in the renewed enforcement of ‘Michuki rules.’
“All the agencies involved will step up surveillance, especially on major roads and blackspots, to ensure motorists adhere to safety rules. We will not relent,” he said.
According to the latest statistics by the NTSA, at least 2,214 people have died in road accidents since January.
