Wema Sepetu has been banned by the Tanzanian Film Board from taking part in any film-related activities after her intimate videos leaked online.
Handing down the judgement, the board’s Executive Secretary Joyce Fisoo said that the bongo actress has been barred with immediate effect from shooting or directing any movie until further notice.
Fisoo added that the regulatory body unreservedly condemns her actions and she will only be allowed back when it feels that the star has changed her ways.
“Tumekutana na mwigizaji wa filamu bi Wema Sepetu na kutokana na ukiukwaji wa sheria ya filamu na michezi ya kuigiza, imejiridhisha pasipo shaka na inachukua hatua ya kumfungia bi wema sepetu WemaSepetu kutojihusisha na masuala ya filamu na uigizaji hadi pale bodi itakapojiridhisha kuwa amejirekebisha na itafuatilia kwa ukaribu mwenendo wake,” said Fisoo.
The official also explained that it hopes that the former Miss Tanzania will take the opportunity to reflect and become a better role model.
“Kufuatia Bibi Wema kukiri makossa yake, na kuomba radhi kwa maandishi kwa bodi ya filamu mashabiki wake na watnzania kwa ujumla kuonyesha kwamba anjutia kosa lake nina Imani kwamba kipindi hiki atakitumia kujirekebisha na kuwa kioo bora kwa jamii,” noted Fisoo.
The board also took the opportunity to remind other players in the industry that they were being monitored and anyone who infringes on the regulations will meet with the full force of the law.
“Vile vile bodi la filamu la Tanzania linatoa onyo kali kwa wanatasnia wote wa filamu na michezo ya kuigiza wenye tabia kama hizo inwataka kuziacha mara moja kwani haitasita kuchukua hatua stahiki pale sheria itakapo kiukwa.”
The directive comes just hours after she came out and apologized to the nation saying she made a mistake and regrets her actions.
“Nakiri kwamba nimewadhalilisha wengi, nimewafedhehesha wengi, siko hapa kujustify nilichokifanya wala kutoa sababu juu ya nilicho kifanya. Maana haitabadilisha chochote kwa kua nimekosea na wala sihitaji kumlaumu mtu yeyote kwa lililo tendeka maana kosa ni kosa,”
The video that landed the popular bongo actress in trouble had her getting intimate in bed with a man she had in earlier posts introduced as her ‘future husband’.
