President Uhuru calls off meeting with local musicians

News

President Uhuru Kenyatta has postponed his anticipated meeting with musicians from central Kenya.

The president had to cancel the meeting scheduled for October 16 at State House “to allow for adequate preparations” and to come up with a “comprehensive agenda of the meeting”.

In a press statement released on Twitter on October 14, Government Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe said over 10,000 musicians showed interest in the meeting a thing that forced them into reorganizing.

“To allow for adequate preparations so that the meeting meets the intended purpose and systematically improves the music industry in Kenya, the meeting has been postponed," Kiraithe said.

"Consequently, the CS, Ministry of Sports and Heritage has been directed to form a multi-sectoral team to comprehensively prepare for the meeting and organize the necessary logistics at the earliest possible opportunity and therefore the Ministry has been directed to expedite the preparations."

During Joseph Kamaru's burial, the president extended the invitation to the musicians after Ben Githae of the “Uhuru Tano Tena” fame pleaded with him to grant them an audience.

Githae told the president that the late Kamaru had been pursuing the matter before passing on.

Kiraithe stated that the meeting will occur in the near future because Uhuru is also interested in meeting with musicians and hearing them out.

“The president is keen to meet the musicians at the earliest possible opportunity and therefore the Ministry has been directed to expedite on these preparations,” added Kiraithe.
